Toitoi Yaku: All Triplets, No Sequences
Sep 22, 2026 · 4 min read

Toitoi ("all pairs/twins") means all 4 sets in your hand are triplets (kotsu/kantsu), with no sequences at all. It's worth 2 han, and works whether your hand is open or closed.
Building Toward Toitoi
A Toitoi strategy usually starts by deliberately collecting pairs (rather than chasing sequences) from early on, then calling Pon whenever a triplet completes. Since you don't need any particular run of numbers, your hand becomes more flexible about which tiles are useful.
Combos That Often Come With Toitoi
- Toitoi + Sanankou (3 closed triplets) -- a common, high-value pairing.
- Toitoi + Yakuhai -- if one of your triplets happens to be a valuable tile.
- Toitoi + Honitsu -- if every triplet comes from one suit plus honors.

An example Toitoi hand -- all four sets are triplets, with no sequences at all.
Toitoi hands tend to run high on fu since every triplet contributes its own fu -- don't be surprised when a low-han Toitoi hand still scores expensive.
